Handmade delights at EcoMental

I made lots of little ornaments for the tree - painted and spangled with beads, fabric birds to cheer up your space (that I sold at the Glen Helen show) and beaded pins for your winter coat or dress, that are now for sale at EcoMental on Main St. here in Yellow Springs. Come on down to see them - not too pricey. CJ and Nancy have graciously set up a space for local crafts people to share their wares - Theresa has her beads there too : )

Glen Helen show a success xoxo y.s.

well, I'd say the show was a success though I still need to work on developing new beautiful goods that are COMPLETELY irresistible! I was very happy with the giclee I had made of my Owlets painting...true color!

Creative Fire

Too many ideas, visions of what must be designed, painted, created...my hours pass too swiftly. I ache to wield the brush....ok  ok  the migraine sitting on my head like a smothering elephant isn't helping me accomplish anything.

Glen Helen Show, etc

Please come visit me at the Glen Helen Nature Arts and Craft show, Nov. 20 and 21.  I'll be sharing a space with Theresa Mayer and her lovely beads.  I'll have wee birdies and purses crafted out of my treasure trove of fabrics as well as watercolor paintings and prints.
I won 'Best in Show' at the Dare 2B Square show here in Y.S. and will bring the painting to display at the Glen.  I've got some shows I'm helping put together coming up too - and I'm going to be illustrating another book - life is good.

Sunflowers to paint!

Sat with friends Mary, Marion and Ruth to paint the sunflowers on the Tecumseh Land Trust/Whitehall Farm property - directly across from Peifers Orchard on Rt 68 - What Fun!!!  It feel like we are Renoir or Monet, painting the lovely fields of France - right here in Ohio.  I'll be there again - plein aire - on friday morning with a Springfield group to paint.  My daughter Melanie complains that I only go when she's in school so you may find me there again this w.e.   All the local galleries will be filled with sunflowers!

Playing on the computer with Photoshop

Saw my sis this morning at one of favorite spots on the earth - the Emporium Coffee/Underdog Cafe.  She asked about how to convert a photo into a drawing.  First I thought, well, give me a pencil - I draw, you know....
On the computer though - it is fun to play with photoshop.  Here's a photo I did a 'stamp' effect with - I particularly like it! It is my hubby and me - of course...

Time to get to work again...

OK OK - lots of travel and fun this summer along with tending my paintings at the Winds.  The show was a success - well worth the effort. On to more endeavors - got to start working toward the Glen Show.
We travelled to U.P., MI and saw the lovely Pictured Rock park.  We so enjoyed being on Lake Michigan during this extreme summer.

Buy a Painting at the Winds and support YSKP

Tucson Artist - Libby Rudolf

'Watercolors at the Winds' exhibit is up through July 25.  In order to support the efforts of Yellow Springs Kids Theater, I will donate 50% of the proceeds for the next painting sold!  The current show, Conference of the Birds is truly lovely, marvelous music, vibrant costumes and set and youth giving it their all.  Each actor or actress shines at one time or another and I love the harmonizing, the dancing, the puppets.  Shows thursday through sunday, July 15-18 at 7:30 at Antioch Ampitheater here in good ol' Y.S., OH.

Yellow Springs - a lively little town!

Cool stuff happening in Y.S. - I thought about offering a class but am busy painting/being Mom/watching YSKP/travelling.  I hope folks will stray into the Winds too to see my show - I'm not doing a big event that will make it into the news/flyers but, hey - I'm still showing!  come on by...here's Kayak crossing.

a visit to the Winds for dessert, etc.

It is truly delightful to go the Winds with friends, to look at my ; ) art and hear their comments.  Of course, I realize that it would feel awkward for them to say they don't like this or that...  As we peruse the artwork, we often see others we know and they tell me which painting is their favorite.  Yellow Springs is an incredibly art-supportive town!  I love living here. Here is a small painting I did fall trees.

Watercolors at the Winds - thru 7/25

Come down for a look-see at the walls of the Winds Cafe - filled with colorful watercolors.  Maybe you just might need one on your boring wall at home or office?  Free to see though - more fun to dine or have a dessert with a loved one and soak in the atmosphere too!  See Zanes' work too... ; )

Crane Maiden and soul-filled paintings

Here is a pic from the show...  The reception was a wonderful success, thanks to Mom and Dad and lots of friends helping with food and set-up as well as hanging!  I have sold enough to cover frames so YES, it has been a worthwhile endeavor.  It is deeply gratifying to see ones' work displayed in quantity and to have people say what they like...then even acquire it for their own home.  I thought of the childrens' book, 'The Crane Maiden' as I framed the work, how the crane maiden pulled feathers to weave the beautiful cloth - I wove these colors into paintings from my soul.

Strawberries and Painting

It is Strawberry cutting time for the Yellow Springs Street Fair - a morning of sitting with old and young as we cut the berries.  So, I'll be weilding a knife instead of a brush today.  When I get back to painting, I've GOT to finish the painting for the Little Art Clooney fundraiser-June 25 and the July Glen Helen juried show, etc.  plus - should I paint an owl for the Raptor Center - is there at least a snippet of $$ for the time/materials available.  Yes, I love to create but...

Cuyahoga inspiration

We had a wonderful time biking and riding the train in Cuyahoga NP....lots of inspiring scenery to come home to paint. I could have perhaps considered painting plein aire BUT watercolors wouldn't have endured the sprinkles and downpours we worked around on occassion....

okok we got drenched!!! but still had a lot of fun. Here's an old mill on the canal

Fealing Lin workshop

I attended the Western Ohio Watercolor Society workshop with Fealing Lin, an amazing artist. She did demos of her techniques of painting lovely sensitive portraits and also landscapes that have powerful shape, value and color interactions. It was a wonderful week - topped off meeting her and Misuk, a friend, to walk around Yellow Springs. She very much enjoyed the ambiance here, the lovely work (staff and cat too) in Bonadies, the friendly guy in the Asian shop in the brick place, etc. Here's a pic I did in the workshop and one of Fealing painting during the workshop.

Fairborn Art Association

went to the Fairborn Art Assoc. meeting and saw a great presentation by an energetic artist named Clarice Moore. She's a violinist, violin teacher and self-taught visual artist who told us of her various endeavors. She's written and illustrated a book called Dilly the Violin and self-published it. She's a lot more agressive about the marketing thing than I am - sigh - I should get going on "The Family Tree of the Rainbow" again with Raymond...!

Meanwhile - painting, painting, painting...
