Painting People in Watercolor class May 20!

Paint Daily - one sure way to improve!

I definitely feel better about the day if I make time to take brush in hand to paint....even if it is only for a half hour or so.  Recently, I drove an hour to join a model drawing group for an afternoon and it was totally worth it!  I sketched in brush pen first to warm up...then switched to pencil sketch on wc paper and painting.  The model held the pose for 20 minutes at a time which gave us a chance to assess our progress, say hi to other artists, etc.  I could have stayed for a day and a night but of course, it was over way too soon.  I liked some of my ink sketches but especially liked the wc sketches...not really a completed painting but the impression of the model.

Here's one that I took into an app to 'cartoonize' it - I like the lines and artifacts, the character it adds to the piece.

I'm teaching 'Painting People in Watercolor' with an artist friend, Diana Hoke so I'm painting samples : ).

New Exhibit at the Senior Center - A FAMILY AFFAIR

'Yuba River'  Watercolor  16x20  $450
Here is one of my watercolors that will be on display at the YS Senior Center on Main St from early March through the end of April.  There will be a reception on Friday, March 16....4-7, I think.  Should be fun!

I'm putting together the exhibit with paintings, stained glass, woodwork, embroideries, handmade books and mixed media sculptures from my work and my family.  I'll have one of Dan's computer board designs.  I'll also have one of my Mom's beautiful handknit fisherman sweaters along with Sue's cool designs using dyed fabric, embroidery and various elements, Eric's wooden creations, Melanie's and Lilli's paintings and sculpture creations, etc.  It will be fun figuring out how to best display such a variety of artworks. oh dear... : ).

I'll also have a hand-made book, Sunshine for Lunch that I did with MLS Elementary teacher Ellen Guest in 2013.  She helped the children raise vegetables and learn about how plants make energy and how that energy goes into us when we eat the soup we make from the veggies!  I did collage with the children for the pages of the book.  Then I took it home and assembled it into the a large book that will be at the Senior Center.  It was a wonderful project that I am so happy have in the show.

I hope that you can come visit the show and celebrate the creativity that runs through our lives, that keep us ticking, so to speak.

Keep Creating!    Artistically yours,  Libby

Tropical Fun in the Deep Freeze of OH

It is a tremendous bit of good fortune to be able to escape winter for a bit, to swim and play in the sun and paint all the beauty of a tropical place.  I took way way too many pictures but it's all reference for future paintings, right?

Friday, I will share some of the fun in the sun in a mini Watercolor workshop at the YS Senior Center.  People will bring their paints and brushes (hopefully) and we'll make paintings of some sunrise/sunsets, flowers, shells, beach and water, etc.  I think it will be fun,

I tell myself I'm not comfortable demo-ing in front of people
and it's mostly because I sometimes freeze up while giving a speech, etc, but.....this will be ok.  I need to stop telling myself the story of being afraid.  It only leads to a dead end street/quiet back water.   I'm sure all will be well.

Wish me luck - maybe you'll be there : )
